It's a very thin line between effective excuse follow up and being a pain in the ass.

I remember stepping off a tourist bus in rural Cuba and being hounded by a Casa owner. After 5 minutes of them trying to convince me to stay at their house I told them, "If you keep bothering me like this, why on Earth would I stay at your house?" They left me alone after that.

Moral of the story: If you do intend on following up, always lead by benefits and don't come across as needy.
